About the Farm

Hi!  I'm Heidi.  I've been working on farms for more than a decade.  2024 is my sixth season with my own flock.

After working on veggie farms, a diversified fruit orchard, farms with grass-fed beef,  sheep, pastured pigs, pastured poultry,  and a season of market gardening with my sister, Andrea, I feel in love with the weird personalities of sheep.

I'm in awe of the flock's ability to improve the health of the land when managed intentionally.

Dictionary quote "May the spent earth gather heart again."

What does the farm name mean?

Rad▪i▪cle (n) - the first root of a plant

H▪a▪rt (n) - strength, fertility

Andrea and I picked the farm name when we had a market garden. The name comes from our intention to connect people with the food they eat. Radicle is a botanical term meaning the first root that emerges from a newly planted seed, the first place that the seed becomes connected with the soil. Not only does Heart represent connection and compassion but historically was used to refer to fertility and strength of the land. We chose these two terms because we want to combine scientific knowledge and historical methods to inform our actions at the farm to create the most beautiful, healthy, and productive farm possible.
